DeMarlo is an interdisciplinary artist whose creative practice spans drawing, painting, crochet, storytelling, and poetry. Raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, she grew up surrounded by artists and musicians, nurturing a lifelong love of creating. Working across graphite, charcoal, paint, ink, marker, chalk, and fiber arts, DeMarlo explores a wide range of subjects inspired by emotion, memory, lived experience, and social issues.

Rather than limiting herself to a single style or medium, DeMarlo allows each idea to determine its own visual language. Whether inspired by prison reform, social justice, personal experiences, or stories of resilience, she creates work that invites viewers to experience familiar subjects from new perspectives while continuing to grow as both an artist and storyteller.

Artist statement

I've loved creating for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I was surrounded by family members who were artists and musicians, and I spent my time drawing, painting, writing stories, poetry, and eventually learning to crochet. Creating has always brought me peace, and it continues to be one of the places where I feel most like myself.

I don't believe every piece has to look the same. My work changes with my thoughts, emotions, and experiences. One piece might be inspired by social justice or prison reform, while another grows from someone's personal story, like the strength of a cancer survivor. Once an idea takes shape in my mind, I choose the materials that best bring it to life, whether that's graphite, charcoal, paint, ink, marker, chalk, or another medium.

My inspiration comes from everywhere: other artists, books, memories, conversations, and the experiences I've gathered throughout my life. I hope my work encourages people to pause, feel something genuine, and consider perspectives they may not have seen before.

As an artist, my goal is to continue growing, refining my skills, and sharing my work with audiences around the world. Every new piece is another opportunity to learn, connect, and communicate through creativity.
