Julia Bogart is a multidisciplinary artist working in drawing, painting, photography, textiles, digital art, writing, and printmaking. Her work explores mental illness, trauma, isolation, and internal struggle through imagery that develops across multiple mediums. Using graphic black-and-white linocut prints that combine imagery and text, she examines memory, psychosis, and lived experience with honesty and vulnerability. Julia has been a member of the Returning Artists Guild since 2024.

Artist statement

Through graphic black-and-white linocut prints that pair imagery with text, I bring to life snapshots of memories and strange traumas that live in my mind, sharing the point of view of my own madness with the audience by combining real scenes with the unreal thoughts and hallucinations of that moment.

Linocut provides a printed version of the liminal space in which I existed during psychosis. Utilizing simplistic imagery and block letters, I convey the starkness of my reality when I was trapped in my thoughts and the background fell away.

While sharing these images can be painful, sometimes resulting in flashbacks, I believe that mutual empathy is at the heart of community and that humanizing the suffering of mental illness is vital to a healthy society.
