Adam Kretchek is an Ohio-based photographer and multidisciplinary artist whose work explores resilience, transformation, hope, and rebuilding life after incarceration. Through thoughtful composition and authentic visual storytelling, he documents personal and shared experiences while inviting viewers to connect with the humanity, strength, and determination found throughout the reentry journey. Adam has been a member of the Returning Artists Guild since 2021.

Artist statement

I create photography and multidisciplinary artwork that explores resilience, transformation, hope, and the experience of rebuilding life after incarceration. Through thoughtful composition and an authentic visual perspective, I document stories of struggle, growth, and renewal while inviting viewers to connect with the humanity, strength, and determination within the reentry journey. My work reflects both personal and shared experiences, exploring identity, healing, and the impact of systems on our lives. In one photograph of my daughter crying into a broken mirror, the fractured reflection speaks to loss, generational trauma, and the struggle to find wholeness within a system designed to break us. The image holds both sorrow and strength, revealing vulnerability while reflecting the possibility of growth, renewal, and second chances.
