William, known to family and friends as "Pete," is a painter, sculptor, and digital artist from Columbus, Ohio. Largely self-taught, his artistic journey began in childhood through a determination to learn how to draw, a passion that eventually grew into a lifelong practice centered on painting and sculpture.

Working primarily in oil paint while also exploring sculpture and digital art, Pete creates work inspired by Afrocentric history, spirituality, and everyday life. His paintings seek to spark reflection while celebrating culture, resilience, and the positive messages that can emerge through creative expression. Guided by observation, imagination, and lived experience, he approaches each piece with curiosity and a commitment to continual growth.

Artist statement

Art has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.

When I was a child, I watched Bob Ross on television and wished I could paint like that. Around the same time, a friend showed me a drawing he had made using a toy he received for Christmas. I tried to recreate it at home, and when my grandmother challenged me to draw it again without looking, I couldn't do it. That moment stayed with me. I became determined to teach myself how to draw, and I've been learning ever since.

I work primarily in oil paint, though I began with acrylics and also enjoy sculpture and digital art. Sometimes an idea begins with a single thought. Other times it's inspired by a person, an experience, or something I see in the world around me. I never know exactly where an idea will lead, but I trust the process and allow each painting to develop in its own way.

My work often explores Afrocentric history, Black identity, spirituality, and the strength of our communities. More than anything, I hope people leave my paintings with a positive feeling or a new way of thinking about the subjects I present.

Artists like Bob Ross and Jerry Yarnell inspired me to believe that beautiful work could be created through patience, practice, and persistence. That same belief continues to guide my own creative journey today. Every painting is another opportunity to learn something new, improve my craft, and share a message that encourages others.
