Wexner Center Highlights RAG’s Work Expanding Arts Access
An early collaboration with the Ohio Prison Arts Connection shows the RAG helping create arts access, connection, and community for people during incarceration and reentry.
In April 2020, the Wexner Center for the Arts featured the Returning Artists Guild as part of its coverage of the Ohio Prison Arts Connection (OPAC), a statewide coalition working to expand arts access for people during incarceration and reentry.
RAG co-founder Aimee Wissman, an artist and filmmaker who served on OPAC’s steering committee, shared what the coalition meant to her and previewed programming developed after the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted plans for a statewide gathering at the Wexner Center. The Wex credited Aimee with playing an instrumental role in creating the new online opportunities.
The RAG was also a cosponsor of the April 3 online gathering, which brought together returned citizens, teaching artists, community members, and others interested in social justice and the restorative power of art.
The coverage captures an early chapter in the RAG’s work to build creative opportunities, relationships, and community for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated creatives.
